Reviewed June 17, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We stayed at the gite for two weeks during May and June, with our lurcher dog.
The location is superb - quiet, yet with all amenities not too far away. We visited nearby villages and lakes. The area is very dog friendly, so we weren't restricted with having a dog with us.
The gite itself is comfortable, and ideal for a couple and a dog. The back garden is enclosed so the dog is safe to go out. Linda and Sam provided all the information that we needed and that made our stay perfect. I will certainly be returning for another holiday here.

Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend?   Yes.

Our latest review from guest Tracey Burns, for a one-month stay in May 2016:

“Sam and Linda were great hosts during our month long stay in May. They made us very welcome and were happy to offer good advice when needed. They pointed out decent restaurants and various shops that would be useful to us. The accommodation was great. Clean and very comfortable. Nice large bedroom and shower. It was also nice having a garden to sit out in and share drinks with Sam and Linda. We stayed there with our dog Binks who soon became Sam's best friend. The accommodation is in a really good area. Close to a small supermarket, bars, shops, restuarant, leisure lake and the motorway network for travelling. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. They knew we were busy in the process of moving to our own home and even delighted us with a home cooked meal one evening. It was a lovely surprise and meant I didn't have to cook when we were shattered. I would truly recommend a stay here. The description was spot on and pet friendly. Well worth a visit and you won't be disappointed.”

A totally delightful place to spend a week

Left on Nov 23, 2015 for a stay in Nov 2015

Well provisioned, Self-contained comfortable cottage with great internet access. Hosts have put a lot of thought into presenting nearby attractions, and into provisioning the cottage. Delightful village with ample to see and do nearby. Good local restaurants. Within driving distance to Limoges and to Orator, (poignant monument to a large regional village massacred during WW!!). We explored the ample pre-history - Dolmans. Menhirs, Chaotic rocks; and walked in ancient forests near the lake and river. Weather was great in November. Hosts are warm and welcoming, and fair in their dealings. A totally delightful place to spend a week ( or more). Recommended.

''Beautiful location, fully equipped self catering holiday let, that felt like we were home from home''

This is a lovely cottage set in a quaint village. It is close to the A20 if travelling from Limoges airport. The owners Sam & Linda were wonderful, very helpful, friendly and informative. We had a relaxing stay at the cottage and we would definitely recommend it. This is a holiday let which is reasonable priced, well worth the money.

'Perfect cottage for a quiet break'

The cottage was lovely, and fully equipped with everything you would need. We were very lucky and had very nice weather, so it was lovely to sit in the garden on the sunloungers. The lovely log-burner in the lounge is very good. We used it every night. The area was lovely, nice and quiet. St. Sulpice les Feuilles is close by, and a lovely little town to visit. There is a very nice lake to walk around with a kids play area and a swimming pool, about 5 minutes from the cottage. The hosts Linda and Sam were both very welcoming after a very long drive to reach the cottage. We would definitely recommend this cottage to stay at. We will definitely be back. We were looking to go back later this year but it is fully booked! Thank you Linda & Sam for a very pleasant stay. Hope to see you again next year.

“lovely cozy cottage, everything provided, good central location.”

5 of 5 starsReviewed January 11, 2014

We spent a week in the cottage, it was very comfortable and warm, with all you needed in the cupboards. The central location enabled us to adventure far and wide each day, so we covered a lot of the area, and it was great to come back to the cottage, turn on the English tv, and prepare for the next day. Our hosts were lovely, Linda gave us hints on where to see, and we enjoyed them all. I would certainly recommend this cottage to others, it is ideal for 2, but there is a sofa bed for another 2 if needed. Parking outside your door is another benefit, much appreciated. Totally enjoyed our stay.

This charming cottage is by far the best accommodation we have been in by some margin. Meticulously clean, spacious and well furnished with all the facilities needed for catering. It is ideal for journeying about on day trips as it is close to the A20 motorway and within easy reach of some lovely towns via country roads should you wish to take in the scenery. My wife was very impressed with the cottage and we will be going again if they are not booked up. I would recommend this to anybody for short or long holidays. Brilliant.

“Peace & Quiet”

Avis écrit le 29 octobre 2013Séjour en Octobre 2013NOUVEAU

The “house with the blue door” is located in a peaceful and quiet spot in a typical French village of Mailhac sur Benaize, which is only a 5 minute drive from Saint Sulpice-les Feuilles where you can pick up all the necessary provisions. The gite is compact, comfortable well equipped and good value for money. The garden backs onto lovely open countryside, a place where one can relax and let the world go by.
The Gite owners Linda & Sam are incredibly helpful, welcoming and kind, we cannot compliment them enough on their hospitality and friendliness. We have rented the cottage for six months with the intention of finding and purchasing a house in the Limousin. The cottage location is ideal for this purpose as it is close (15 minutes) to the A20 auto route and is within easy reach of some lovely villages via country roads when we feel the need to be “holiday makers”. The free Wi-Fi broadband internet service available to us has been essential in our house search. Our hosts Linda & Sam have been invaluable with regard to easing us into the French way of life and negotiating our passage into the French bureaucratic system.
I would recommend a stay at Limousin Cottage to anybody in need of peace and relaxation.

Wonderful springtime hub for househunt

We arrived just as darkness was falling after long drive down from Hastings, to a warm welcome from Linda who kindly made us feel at home. My wife, brother and I had arrived for a 8 day stay property hunting. Sam & Linda were very helpful with local information and we had a great time in the area and have found our own new French home. The cottage is a wonderfully traditional French character property well equiped even English TV and wi-fi, being February it was a bit chilly outside but the woodburner in the lounge was wonderful and gave the cottage a lovely warm cozy glow. Our stay was very comfortable and we enjoyed it very much and would recommend anyone to stay.

Linda and Sam are very friendly and are happy to help guests with local information. Despite being in a very quiet and unspoilt location, there are always lots of places to visit and things to do.

The cottage is tucked away behind the village church and nicely furnished with all mod cons provided, including UK television and Internet access.

There are several restaurants and attractions in the local area, set in beautiful countryside, and the cottage is within easy driving distance of the motorway, La Soutteraine and Limoges Airport. A great place for a holiday.

In fact, we have just booked our usual August week again!

Thank you for the welcome we received when we stayed for two nights recently in February 2013.

We found your cottage to be comfortable, cosy and spotlesslly clean.

The facilities provided such as logs for the woodburner, a well equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom made for a most enjoyable stay.

Mailhac sur Benaizes is such a convenient location being just inside Haute Vienne and also near the borders of Creuse, Indre, Vienne.

As you know this was a house hunting trip and we loved your village and surroundings so much that I am hoping to move here myself very soon.

Best Regards

Very good stay

The cottage is lovely. It is spotlessly clean and has everything you would need for a stay in this area. Your hosts are very welcoming and help with any problems. It is lovely to have a garden and although we were there at the end of the summer there was a good bbq and everything you need to go with that. The setting is beautiful, the village friendly and a very good base for seeing the area. I would recommend the cottage to anyone visiting here.Aide à la traduction

Sfeervol, welkom, mooie omgeving.

From arriving in Mailhac sur Benaize until leaving we good not have found any fault with either our accomodation or the hospitality. A perfect getaway

We found this little cottage on Facebook and, needless to say, at such a low price we were sceptical but this place is an absolute gem of a find and on our first day we sat in the living room planning several future visits! To say it was hot is an understatement - driving in 40 degree heat with no air-con is not something we plan on repeating - but the cottage provided a cool retreat from the hot sun. The surrounding area is just beautiful and the nearby towns of St Sulpice and La Soutteraine provided everything we needed for the week (La Soutteraine is a lovely town to take a walk around as well). The nearby lakeside pool was choca-blok with children but it is big enough to accommodate everybody - good bar too! Sam and Linda could not have tried harder to make our stay a relaxed and enjoyable one, providing us with advice on where to go - the zoo is an absolute must! - but maintaining a distance to allow us the privacy to relax and really feel at home. That's really the best way to describe the cottage, an absolute home from home! I can't reccommend this place enough and will most definitely return in the future, lots of love to Sam and Linda (and little Perdu!)

Votre réponse publique :
That is SO nice of you Becci ! It was lovely to meet you both, and we are glad you had an enjoyable week. We must make sure in future there is chilled mineral water in the fridge when the weather is exceptionally hot ! Fortunately we still have lovely sunshine, as is often the case in Autumn here. PS. Little Perdu is no longer Perdu - she is happily settled in with a new family.

Very peaceful and relaxing

Very peaceful being set back off the road. Lovely rural villages in the locality and nearby walks. Several towns of interest within an easy drive away. We stayed as a group of three (myself and my parents) and I found the downstairs bed to be quiet adequate. There were two bikes for use which provided some enjoyable trips out.

Votre réponse publique :
Sam & I are so pleased that, despite the weather being a bit too windy at times for your micro-lighting lessons, you still all managed to find alternative things to enjoy. It was a pleasure to meet you all.

Sam and Linda looked after us very well. They have a good knowledge of the French way of life and were very patient with our numerous questions. They spoilt our dog rotten and often looked after him if we wanted to go out for a while.
The cottage is well equipped and the woodburner makes the room very cosy in winter. The small garden has everything you need for lazy summer days and outdoor eating.
We really enjoyed the 6 months we were there.

Limousin Holiday Cottage

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

This holiday cottage exceeded all expectations. Spacious. comfortable bed, great shower, full of character and equipped with everything you need and more. The next door neighbours are Sam and Linda and they could not be any more welcoming and helpful. One damp evening we set off on the 30min walk to the restaurant at Lac de Mondon. We had obviously been spotted because after 100 yards Sam pulled up in his car and insisted on giving us a lift. Customer service? You bet!
The local area is very rural and peaceful, yet it catered for all our wants and needs. Great bars selling good food, a well stocked supermarket, pharmacies, bakeries, butchers, swimming pool, beautiful walks, cycle rides ( bikes supplied by Sam and Linda ) and a very reliable and friendly local taxi service.
Access to the motorway network is only 6 miles away and direct trains to Paris are only 12 miles away in La Souterraine.
All in all, a great holiday and if you are visiting from Northern Ireland, bring Tayto crisps and potato bread. Sam and Linda deserve them!
