Limousin-Cottage, established in 2010, is in an ideal spot for exploring the whole of the Limousin region, as it is so handy for the toll-free A20 motorway, which is a 5-10 minute drive away. You will find you can do as much or as little as the fancy takes you during a stay here. Limoges airport is just a 45 min drive away, and has flights from Stansted, East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Southampton, Birmingham and Bristol with Ryanair and British Airways from Gatwick. Other airports in the region include Tours, Poitiers and Brive. From the Channel ports it is around a 6 hour drive.

The cottage is also ideal for anyone looking for a base for a longer stay, off-season. The cottage is kept very cosy in the Winter by the log-burning stove. There is also excellent, FREE Wi-Fi internet, and UK TV. Between October and March the monthly rent is €500 per month for a 3-month stay.

The stone built cottage, circa 1750, fronts directly onto a little residents off-road courtyard, so you can park safely directly in front of your door. It is well away from the road, quietly tucked in behind the church. It is quaint and comfortable, and retains much of it's 18th century character. The village is quiet, surrounded by lovely countryside walks, yet the nearby town of St Sulpice les Feuilles is just 2kms along the road.

On the ground floor is the sitting/dining room, and the compact but well-equipped kitchen. The little garden is enclosed and has a patio area for a bbq.  On the first floor, the spacious and quiet double bedroom has views over open countryside behind the cottage, and the light and airy shower room/WC is right next to the bedroom.

On the doorstep

In the immediate vicinity you will find quiet country lanes for walking or cycling. Those of you who would like to spend a quiet day fishing by the lakeside can purchase a day permit at the campsite reception at nearby Lac de Mondon. There is a lovely open air swimming pool (in Summer) and 'Le Repos' a poolside bar/restaurant by the lake, where there is live entertainment at weekends through from Easter to September. There are also amazing riverside walks near the lake, along the River Benaize into medieval forest, where it is rare to meet another soul.

The village does not have any shops, but the small town of St. Sulpice Les Feuilles is just a mile or so down the road, and there you will find a Carrefour Express supermarket, boulangeries, pharmacie, bar/restaurants, bank, garages, and all other daily necessities. It is a bustling little town, and you can spend a pleasant hour sitting outside Isabel's bar/restaurant in the Place de l'Eglise with a coffee or beer, or you can enjoy a four course lunch with wine for just €12.

An added bonus - there is a French chef in the village who prepares quality, authentic French, take-out meals in his catering kitchen at weekends, at very reasonable prices. Gourmet take-away meals right on your doorstep!

The cottage is in a little row of four adjoining cottages, very quietly tucked in behind the village church, and a short walk out of the village into glorious countryside. It is lovely to sit out on the little bench in front and enjoy the evening sunshine. The local wildlife is very varied - in fact as I type I can hear the hoot of an owl, and from the garden you can watch buzzards gliding overhead. At night you can watch bats hunting moths, and marvel at the crystal clear night sky, without light pollution. We get a great view of the International Space Station crossing from horizon to horizon.

We are happy to welcome your well-behaved pet to the cottage for your stay.

If you need any assistance

We are on hand to offer you local information/advice or even to help with French phone calls to those of you not quite competent in the language.

In the heat of the Summer

You will find that inside the cottage always remains refreshingly cool in the heat of the Summer.  When you step inside you will feel a blast of cool air, due to the very thick granite walls. Lovely!

For Winter stays, the log-burning stove keeps the cottage very cosy and warm, and there are also modern, efficient electric radiators.

Crozant, a wonderful place for a day out.

Crozant is a breathtakingly beautiful place to visit, where the ruins of the old chateau still stand guard, perched high up overlooking the river.

You can enjoy a wonderful lunch at the Hotel du Lac, followed by a visit to the ruins, or a long, leisurely riverboat cruise as far as Eguzon and back.

Many interesting places to visit in the vicinity.

Mailhac sur Benaize is in an ideal spot for your day visits to interesting and beautiful medieval towns, such as St. Benoit du Sault, Argenton sur Creuse, and Le Dorat. The cottage is situated at the 'crossroads' of four departments, Indre (36), Vienne (86), La Creuse (23) and Haute Vienne (87)

The biggest market in France

About a 15 minute drive from the cottage you will find the huge monthly market at Les Herolles.

It is held on the 29th of each month (unless the 29th falls on a Sunday, in which case it is on the following Monday) It is a livestock market, plus lots of stalls selling fresh farm produce. There are also car boot 'brocante' stalls some days, for a good rummage amongst the bric a brac.

A perfect location for bargain hunters!

Just along the road from the cottage is 'Maximum', a huge 'Aladdins Cave', where you can rummage to your hearts content! You name it, you will probably find it there!
